We had the perfect conditions in which to push our bodies, minds and spirits to the brink and bring it home again! Shocking were the 700 people that started with us @ 8:30! People jockeying for the first spot in line - it was NOT a race! It was a team event, where the greatest accomplishment was crossing the finish line together! Sadly, I took a fall about 5 hours in and the nearest Checkpoint was ahead of me 3 hours! So, 30K and 8 hours later, I made the VERY difficult decision to "retire." Though it did not come easy and there were a lot of tears and a mountain of disappointment. So, many long hours of training and preparing all slipped away in a fall!
An injury just wasn't something we prepared for! As my hubby said, "Hey there's next year! NOW you have to do it again!"
